Introduction

At reSentre, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your data when you use our service.

Information We Collect

Account Information

If you choose to create an account, we collect:

  • Email address (for account creation and communication)
  • Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
  • Account preferences and settings
  • Your first name (optional) - only collected if you provide it

Check-in Data

When you create a check-in, we collect:

  • Emotional state and mood information
  • Location data (optional) - only collected with your explicit consent
  • Address text you provide if you choose to search for a location manually
  • Timestamp of the check-in
  • Any additional notes or information you choose to include

Important: Location data is completely optional and never required. We only collect or use your location if you explicitly provide consent by enabling the location toggle and granting your browser’s location permission. When you do choose to share location, we store accurate latitude and longitude coordinates internally to provide you with accurate location-based recommendations. However, your exact location coordinates are never displayed on our public map. For public display, we only use approximate locations (geohash) with approximately 1.2km precision to protect your privacy.

If you choose to type an address manually, we use a third-party geocoding service to convert that address into coordinates.

We also use a third-party geocoding service to convert coordinates into human-readable place labels for insights. For forward geocoding we send the address text you provide, and for reverse geocoding we send latitude and longitude. We request that the provider does not store these queries using their no-record option.

Anonymous Usage

You can use reSentre without creating an account. In this case, we assign you an anonymous identifier (stored in a cookie) to maintain your session and provide basic functionality. This identifier cannot be used to identify you personally.

Technical Information

We automatically collect certain technical information when you use our service:

  • IP address (for security and service functionality)
  • Browser type and version
  • Device information
  • Timezone inferred from IP address (for scheduling and timing features)
  • Usage patterns and analytics (if you consent to analytics cookies)
  • Push subscription details if you enable web push notifications (endpoint and device keys)
  • Offline check-ins stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB) until they are synced

Payment Information

When you make a purchase or subscription, payment information is processed securely through Stripe, our third-party payment processor. We do not store your complete payment card information on our servers. Stripe collects and processes:

  • Payment card details (processed securely by Stripe, not stored by us)
  • Billing address and contact information
  • Transaction history and subscription details

Stripe's collection and use of your payment information is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. We only receive information necessary to confirm payment completion and manage your subscription.

How We Use Your Information

Service Provision

  • To provide and maintain our service
  • To process your check-ins and store your emotional data
  • To generate insights, trends, and recommendations based on your data
  • To create your personal timeline and emotional patterns
  • To authenticate your account and ensure security
  • To analyse usage patterns and improve our service through aggregated, anonymised data analysis

Public Map (Optional)

If you choose to contribute to our public map, we use your check-in data to show general mood trends across areas. Your individual data and exact location coordinates are never displayed. The public map only uses approximate location data (geohash) and shows:

  • Approximate areas using geohash (approximately 1.2km precision, not precise coordinates)
  • General mood trends aggregated across multiple users
  • Only areas with 3 or more check-ins (to prevent identification of individual check-ins)

Communication

We may use your email address to:

  • Send account verification emails
  • Send password reset emails
  • Notify you of important service updates
  • Respond to your inquiries or support requests

Data Privacy Principles

Private by Default

All your check-ins and personal data are private by default. We do not share your individual data with anyone unless you explicitly choose to contribute to the public map.

Location is Optional

Location data is completely optional and never required. We only collect or use your location if you explicitly provide consent. When you do choose to share location, we store accurate latitude and longitude coordinates to provide you with accurate location-based recommendations. However, these exact coordinates are never displayed on our public map. For public display, we only use approximate locations (geohash with approximately 1.2km precision) to protect your privacy.

Aggregated Public Data

The public map only shows general mood trends in approximate areas. Individual check-ins can never be identified, and we only display areas with 3 or more check-ins.

Your Data, Your Control

You can export or delete your data at any time by contacting support. You have full control over your information.

Data Storage and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • Passwords are hashed using secure algorithms and never stored in plain text
  • Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
  • Access to your data is restricted to authorised personnel only
  • Regular security audits and updates

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information (such as your email address or account details) to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent: If you choose to contribute to the public map, aggregated data may be displayed
  • Location-based insights and analytics: We may use aggregated, anonymised emotional and location data to provide insights about how specific locations or areas affect emotional states. This information may be used for research, analytics, and business consulting purposes. Individual user identities are never disclosed, and this data cannot be used to identify you personally. Only aggregated emotional patterns associated with specific locations are shared, without any personal information.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights and safety
  • Service providers: With trusted third-party service providers who assist in operating our service (under strict confidentiality agreements), including:
    • Stripe: Payment processing services. Stripe collects and processes payment information in accordance with their Privacy Policy. We do not store complete payment card details on our servers.
    • Google Analytics: Website analytics services (only if you consent to analytics cookies). Google Analytics collects usage data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics through our cookie preferences or using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
    • OpenCage: Used for reverse-geocoding (place labels) and address lookups. We send latitude/longitude or address text for lookups and request that OpenCage does not store these queries using their no-record option.
    • ipapi.co: Used to infer timezone from IP address (for scheduling and timing features).
    • OpenStreetMap and Carto: Map tile providers used to display maps. Your browser requests tiles directly from these providers.
    • cdnjs (Leaflet assets): Used to load map icons. Your browser requests these assets directly.
    • Web push services: If you enable push notifications, your browser may send subscription details to push services (such as Apple, Google, or Mozilla) to deliver notifications.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
  • Export: Export your data in a portable format
  • Correction: Update or correct your personal information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent for optional data processing (such as analytics)

Cookies and Tracking

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time spent on pages. This information is used to analyse website traffic and improve our service. Google Analytics data is processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. We also use local storage and similar technologies to remember your preferences and in-app choices (such as theme, currency selection, consent choices, and dismissing prompts). These are stored locally in your browser.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable timeframe, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

We may cache geocoding results (such as place labels) to reduce repeated lookups and improve performance.

Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
